ManPower report- Flexible working is a priority for UK workers with 73% of UK employees wanting more flexibility according to a Manpower Report in October 2005. 73% would work later in life if they could. 59% of employees would be content to work a longer week if their hours were more flexible.
<p align=left>The report provides an insight into how workers in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa view aspects of the workplace. UK employees also rated a work/life balance as important when deciding upon a job. Future career opportunities, benefits and salary were 3 main factors. 9% of workers believe working for a well known company is important. Key work place issues for employees are the length of the working week (62% rating it as important), the number of holidays (54%) and access to paid courses (49%).

Guidance on age discrimination laws- Employers are becoming desperate for more information on UK age discrimination laws. The Employers Forum on Age said organisations were failing to prepare for the new UK legislation, which could leave employers exposed to discrimination claims next year. UK employers are getting fustrated because they were promised two years to prepare, yet age laws will be introduced probably within12 months and yet many regulations remain incomplete. There is still no information on transitional arrangements for planned retirement and redundancy schemes nor about pension scheme exemptions.
